Why do I have to log in?
Logging in to view profiles is standard practice on internet websites, and APPA has made the decision to adopt this practice for two related reasons.
The first is that with the login requirement, player profiles will no longer be indexed by search engines. A few players have expressed concerns that their paintball participation may be available when someone searches for their name. This change will prevent that from happening.
The second is that it has come to our attention that some paintball leagues apparently think it is OK to use our system to spot check a few of their players in the event of a complaint about a player's classification even though their league is not participating in the system. This is not fair to players in the short term, as only a small number of players get checked and you might not find out you can't play until you get to the event, or worse, until after you've been disqualified. And it is not fair to players in the long term because the APPA system only works for everyone when event histories are in the database. So when leagues do not fully participate in the system, they are also robbing all paintball players of the chance to have a system that is as effective as possible.
Leagues that want more than just the appearance of enforcing their classification rules will find tremendous value in the APPA system, including many features beyond classification tracking like online registration, scheduling and scoring.
